Frequently asked questions

  • Do you admit students throughout the year?
Yes, your child can start at any time during the school year. Our teachers are used to settling students at short notice, and our personalised induction process quickly makes them feel at home.
  • Is there a waiting list?
We sometimes have a waiting list, yes. We recommend getting in touch with our admissions team as soon as possible to secure your child’s place.
  • How do I apply to the British International School Bratislava?

Your application journey starts with our brilliant admissions team. Get in touch with them today to register your interest and arrange an in-person or virtual tour of our campuses.

You'll then need to complete our online application form. You'll also need to submit some supporting documents: a copy of your child’s passport; a copy of recent school reports; and any SEN reports (if applicable).

If your child is joining us in Year 7 or above, we'll invite them to sit a short, age-appropriate assessment.

All being well, we'll then offer you a place. Once your child's place and start date are confirmed, you'll need to send us an education agreement; consent forms; responsibility for fees form; a copy of your child's health insurance; a transfer form (on request from the admissions team); and vaccination confirmation (only for our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children).

  • What do BISB's tuition fees include?

Our tuition fees reflect the exceptional learning experiences we offer, as well as the outstanding academic success our students achieve.

The fees you'll pay not only cover the costs of your child's academic tuition, but also include many other elements of school life. These include exciting global opportunities through Nord Anglia Education, such as our pioneering collaborations with MIT, Juilliard, and UNICEF, as well as a wide choice of extra-curricular activities and community service experiences.

Our tuition fees also include exam entrance, most local trips, specialist learning support, and more.

  • What ages do you teach at BISB?
The British International School Bratislava is open to students aged from 2.5 to 18 years.
  • What are your class sizes?
Our average class size is 20. Class groups are much smaller in the early years, however, with a teacher-student ratio of 1:8.
  • What curricula do you teach?

Our students follow an expertly designed programme of British and international curricula.

We teach the English National Curriculum up to Year 9. This encompasses the early years, primary, and secondary.

In Years 10 and 11, we offer Cambridge IGCSEs. And in Years 12 and 13 we teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

  • What qualifications do your teachers have?

Being part of the Nord Anglia Education family of schools means we can recruit the best: talented teachers who have extensive experience in British and international schools, and who are experts in their field. Every member of our team is carefully chosen and has UK qualified status or equivalent.

Our educators are always learning, too. We offer unparalleled opportunities for them to develop and grow, supported by accreditation from the best training organisations. This means they deliver cutting-edge academic programmes and extra-curricular activities.

  • What extra-curricular activities do you offer?

At BISB, we offer more than 70 extra-curricular clubs and programmes. These are designed to nurture your child’s talents and inspire new interests beyond the classroom.

Activities range from sports to science, music to maths. We also offer internationally recognised programmes, including The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

Extra-curricular activities usually take place after school, between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. Some secondary clubs finish at 5:00 pm.

  • My child doesn’t speak English. Can they enrol at BISB?
Yes, we’re open to children who can’t speak English up to Year 6, and children with limited English up to Year 9.

Our expert English as an Additional Language (EAL) teachers will make sure your child gets the support they need to become a proficient English speaker. Students joining us in Years 10-13 need a good level of English so that they can follow our curriculum.
  • Do you offer boarding facilities?
We don’t offer boarding facilities, but some of our older students live in a dormitory at the local high school, which is close to our campuses. Get in touch with our admissions team to find out more.
  • Where can I find BISB's term and holiday dates?
You can find key term, holiday, and event dates on our school calendar.
  • Do you provide school lunches?
Yes, we offer healthy snacks and tasty hot school lunches every day. These are carefully prepared to provide the fuel our students need to learn.
  • Is there a bus service to and from the school?

Yes, we run a school minibus service. The service can collect your child from a home address in almost any area of Bratislava, up to 15km from our school.

If your family lives more than 15km away, we can pick up your child for an extra charge.
